MINING FOR GOLD

“Only by much searching and mining are gold and diamonds obtained, and man can find every truth connected with his being if he will dig deep into the mine of his soul.”

Are you mining?

Have you ever REALLY mined your soul to discover exactly who you are and what your destiny is? Or did you lazily look around and then give up?

• “What would you do if you weren’t afraid?”
• “What are your greatest strengths?”
• “What are 5 things you’re most proud of?”
• “What are 5 things you will be most proud of?”
• “What’s your dharma/purpose/reason for being on the planet?”
• “What is it that you, and only you, can give to the world?”
• “If you had only 6 months to live, what would you do?”
• “If you won $100 million in the lottery, what would you do?”
• “If you met a genie and he gave you 3 wishes, what would you ask for?”

I wonder what went wrong?

“What would our lives be like if we could all be happy no matter what?”
~ Marci Shimoff

  • Less than 30 percent of people report being deeply happy.
  • Twenty-five percent of Americans and 27 percent of Europeans claim they are depressed.
  • The World Health Organization predicts that by 2020, depression will be second only to heart disease in terms of the global burden of illness.
Isn’t it weird that in an era where we can send someone to the moon, we still don’t know how to create a culture of consistently happy people?!?

 Aristotle once said..
“Happiness is the meaning and purpose of life, the whole aim and end of human existence.”

Yet unhappiness(absence of happiness) is what most feels each day. I wonder what went wrong?

All you have to do is ask.

All you have to do is ask.
Most people wait until everything is just right before they do anything. They refuse to go out on a limb because they don't understand that the fruit is always out on the limb. They refuse to bet on themselves. For them, the ball game of life is already over, and they've lost it. Their epitaph could well read, "Born 1942, died 1974, buried 1997," or whenever the heart finally stops beating.

“Good enough” is not good enough

“Good enough” is not good enough

Most people, organizations, professionals, marketers settle for less than they are capable of. They have this thing called “willingness to compromise”.  Always ready to ignore excellence and move to “good enogh”. Does it get the job done? Yes. Then its ok. What happened to excellence?

“Good enough” is not good enough.

Majority just looking to give what is expected of him/her. No one is aiming to be the best. Is “Well, no one better showed up” a valid strategy for success? Are you hoping to become a success because you’re the only one being considered?

“Good enough” is not good enough.

Just about everything you learned in school about life is wrong, but the wrongest thing might very well be this: Being well rounded is the secret to success.
When you came home from school with two As, a B+, and three Bs, you were doing just fine. Imagine the poor kid who had an A+ and four Cs. Boy, was he in trouble, Says Seth Godin.

From a test-taking book: “Skim through the questions and answer the easiest ones first, skipping ones you don’t know immediately.”  Really? Why don’t just say be mediocre?
From beginning to the end we are aiming for “just passable” “barely workable” “decent”.
How was the movie? It was good or entertaining. You see a million dollar budget movie and the end its hard to remember the opening scene! Really? What happened to how was the movie?  Oh my “swearing” God! I just witnessed a master piece, the best movie ever made, if you don’t see it today you will die of regret.

“Good enough” is not good enough.

While the world is saying “the low-hanging fruit is there to be taken; no sense wasting time climbing the tree.” Let us commit to excellence for at least one thing in this world. Let’s be the best at something.

“Good enough” is not good enough.
